Customs implement around 150 laws which are not directly connected to Customs. The Swiss Customs Museum sheds light on the role Customs has to play in the nation's economy and culture, and in the security and health of the Swiss population. It is for that reason that the museum works together with partner organisations such as the Federal Office of Culture FOC, the Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office FSVO, the State Secretariat for Migration, the Swiss National Museum (SNM) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
The museum is one of the reality settings for the Musée imaginaire des migrations, a virtual museum of real-life migration stories. The project, operating outside the confines of physical walls, involves many partner organisations.
The Museo delle culture Lugano and the Swiss Museums Association are also partner organisations of the Customs Museum.
Furthermore, the Swiss Customs Museum is a member of the International Association of Customs/Taxation Museums (IACM). The association includes 25 countries which host a Customs museum.
